Lightweighting and Innovation

Less material, same performance Lightweighting is one of the most effective ways to reduce the environmental footprint of glass packaging. At GCA Spirits, we apply a “right-weighting” approach, optimizing glass packaging designs to use less material without compromising quality, durability or performance.

Working closely with our partners, we integrate lightweighting principles into both existing product portfolios and new development projects, delivering more sustainable packaging solutions while maintaining premium brand perception.

In 2025, our lightweighting projects delivered measurable environmental benefits:
1,253 tonnes of glass saved
1,416 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided

These results demonstrate how innovation can drive meaningful progress in resource efficiency, carbon reduction and sustainable packaging development.

Close the Glass Loop Movement

The “Close the Glass Loop” initiative, launched by the European glass packaging industry, aims to increase the glass collection rate across Europe to 90% by 2030 and further enhance glass packaging recycling.

At GCA, we support this initiative as part of our commitment to a more sustainable future. By encouraging the use of recycled glass, it contributes to greater resource efficiency while helping reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Thanks to glass’s infinite recyclability, we are helping strengthen the circular economy and create lasting value for future generations.

Glass Hallmark

Glass Hallmark is a joint initiative created by the European glass packaging industry to highlight the sustainability, recyclability and product protection benefits of glass.

Being 100% recyclable and infinitely reusable, glass contributes to the circular economy while preserving the quality and integrity of the products it contains through its inert and natural properties. At GCA, we support the environmental and functional benefits of glass and are proud to be part of the Glass Hallmark movement, promoting a more sustainable future.
